Evening Prayers
From
St. Augustine’s Prayer book
In the name of the XFather and of the Son and of the Holy
Ghost. Amen.
Our Father. Hail, Mary.
Examination of Conscience
O God, show me my sins.
O God, make me sorry for my sins.
O God, deliver me from my sins.
Was I slothful? Judged or spoken evil of
others? Gossiped? Lied? Cheated, or coveted what belongs to others? Have I been
wrathful or unforgiving? Given to lust or gluttony? Have I entertained envy or
pride?
O God, I am
very sorry that I have offended Thee, who art so good: Forgive me for Jesus’
sake, and I will try to sin no more.
My God, I thank
Thee for all the blessings Thou hast sent me this day, and through my whole
life. O my God, I love Thee, and I want to love Thee more. O dear God, I
believe in Thee, and I hope in Thee for the pardon of my sins for the help of Thy
grace and for everlasting life, because of Thy love, Thy promises and Thy
power.
Remember,
gracious God, for good my father, mother, brothers, sisters, husband/wife,
children and god-children. Bless my relations, benefactors, and friends
(especially…). Give Thy grace and heavenly benediction to the clergy of my
parish. Hear me good Lord, who commend unto Thy tender mercy all that labor
under trials and afflictions. Have mercy upon this household; and grant that
humility and meekness, peace and charity, chastity and purity, may rule
therein. Grant that we may so correct and amend ourselves, that we may love,
and fear, and serve Thee faithfully all our days. Through our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ. Amen.
Visit, we
beseech Thee, O Lord, this habitation: drive far from it all the snares of the
enemy, let Thy holy angels dwell herein to preserve us in peace, and let Thy
blessing be ever upon us. Through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
Lighten our
darkness, we beseech Thee, O Lord; and by Thy great mercy defend us from all
perils and dangers of this night, for the love of Thy only Son, our Savior
Jesus Christ. Amen.
The
Magnificat
MY soul doth
magnify the Lord, * and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
For he hath
regarded * the lowliness of his handmaiden.
For behold,
from henceforth * all generations shall call me blessed.
For he that
is mighty hath magnified me; * and holy is his Name.
And his mercy
is on them that fear him * throughout all generations.
He hath
showed strength with his arm; * he hath scattered the proud in the imagination
of their hearts.
He hath put
down the mighty from their seat, * and hath exalted the humble and meek.
He hath
filled the hungry with good things; * and the rich he hath sent empty away.
He,
remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel; * as he promised to our
forefathers, Abraham and his seed, forever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to
the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Act of
Praise

glory, for time and for eternity. Amen

spirit, for Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord, Thou God of truth.
Morning Prayers
From
St. Augustine’s Prayer book
Upon rising, making the sign of the cross saying:
I praise my God this day: I give myself
to God this day: I ask God to help me this day:
In
private, setting time to place yourself in the presence of Almighty God praying
some or all of the following:
In the name of the XFather
and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
Our
Father. Hail, Mary. I Believe…
O God, thou
art my God who has made me for thy self. O Lord, Heavenly Father, to thee I
devote my heart and my entire life. Grant me thy grace I implore thee, that
this day I may live as in thy presence, and walk in the path of thy
commandments, following the example of my savior Christ, ad being made like
unto him, Give me thy Holy Spirit that, trusting only in him I may overcome
those sins which beset me.
Vouchsafe, O
gracious God, to me and to …, such blessings as we need both temporal and
spiritual. I ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
O Lord, and heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God
who hast brought me to the beginning of this day: defend me in the same with
thy might power; and grant that this day I fall into no sin, neither run into
any danger; but that in all my doings, being ordered by thy governance, may be
righteous in thy sight. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Act of Thanksgiving
We thank
thee, O God, for the blessings without number which we have received from thee;
chiefly for our creation, preservation and all the blessings of this life; but
above all for the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for our
regeneration by the Holy Ghost, and for our membership in the catholic church.
Make our hearts more truly thankful. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
For the Holy Spirit
Come, O Holy Ghost, the Lord and Life-Giver; take up thy
dwelling within my soul, and make of it thy sacred temple.
Make me live by grace as an adopted child of God. Pervade all the energies of
my soul, and create in me a fountain of living water springing
up unto life everlasting. Amen.
Various Prayers (pgs.
28-44)
To thee, I desire to consecrate all my thoughts, words,
actions and sufferings; that henceforward I may think of thee, speak of thee,
constantly refer all my actions to thy greater Glory, and suffering willingly
whatever though shalt allow me to suffer.
Grant, O Lord, that I may remember thy rule and example,
by loving my enemies, bearing with injuries, doing good to them that persecute
me, and praying for them that slander or ill-use me.
Assist me to overcome sensuality by mortification, avarice
by almsgiving, anger by meekness, and lukewarmness by
devotion.
Assist me, that I may continually labor to overcome my
fallen nature, to correspond with thy grace, to keep thy commandments and to
work out my salvation.
O Heavenly Father, I commend the souls of my children to
thee. Be thou their God and Father; mercifully supply whatever is wanting in me
through frailty or negligence. Strengthen them to overcome the corruptions of
the world, to resist all solicitations to evil, whether from within or without;
and deliver them from the secret snares of the enemy. Pour thy grace into their
hearts, and confirm and multiply in them the gifts of thy Holy spirit, that
they may daily grow in grace and in knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ; and so
faithfully serving thee here, may come to rejoice in thy presence hereafter.
Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Benedictus
BLESSED be the Lord God of Israel; * for he hath visited
and redeemed his people;
And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us, * in the
house of his servant David;
As he spake by the mouth of his
holy Prophets, * which have been since the world began;
That we should be saved from our enemies, * and from the
hand of all that hate us.
To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers, * and to
remember his holy covenant;
To perform the oath which he sware
to our forefather Abraham, * that he would give us;
That we being delivered out of
the hand of our enemies * might serve him without fear;
In holiness and righteousness before him, * all the days
of our life.
And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the
Highest: * for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
To give knowledge of salvation unto his people * for the
remission of their sins,
Through the tender mercy of our God;
* whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us;
To give light to them that sit in darkness, and in the
shadow of death, * and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory be to the Father, ….
